Image spam has started to decline this year and spam filters are effective at blocking most or almost all spam, but customers often submit other types of unwanted messages such as newsletters or other opt-in e-mails to us as spam.

Continuing on this theme of unwanted grey mail, as previously blogged by our CTO Chris Bolin and my colleague Schalk Cronje, I’ve written a short whitepaper to offer you some suggestions to help reduce this unwanted mail.

The whitepaper is designed for corporate and personal e-mail users but many of the suggestions also apply to Web-based e-mail services such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Hotmail. If you are using a Web-based email service, a good way to reduce the amount of spam you, and others using the same service, receive is to report any missed spam to the e-mail provider. The mail providers receive reports from other customers; the more feedback they receive, the more accurately they can determine which messages are spam.

Expect further updates on this topic in the future.
